Condensed adamantanes or diamondoids have been isolated from petroleum fractions, where they occur in small amounts. 2-Undecanone, also known as methyl nonyl ketone or IBI-246, is an oily organic liquid manufactured synthetically, but which can also be extracted from oil of rue.

Methyl Nonyl Ketone is used in the perfumery and flavoring industries, but because of its strong odor it is primarily used as an insect repellent or animal repellent.

Typically, 1–2% concentrations of 2-undecanone are found in dog and cat repellents in the form of a liquid, aerosol spray, or gel.

Ruthenium Dye 470

Oxide Semiconductor Sensitizer

Ruthenium Dye 470 sensitizes efficiently wide band-gap oxide semiconductors, like titanium dioxide, up to a wavelength of 600 nm.

The maximal absorption coefficient is ~ 21′500 /mol.cm at 465 nm and pH = 14. At pH = 1, the absorption coefficient is ~20′000 /mol.cm at 468 nm wavelength. Ruthenium Dye 470 remains attached to titanium dioxide in acidic aqueous solutions up to pH = 3.

This sensitizer is suited for photochemical water splitting experiments, e.g. together with a tungsten oxide counter-electrode.
